The richest, smartest and most successful people of the 21st century are geeks. Men and women who have been written off as lame nerds in high school, only to grow up and become our current world’s dominators. And a lot of what we mortals have today, we have thanks to that weirdo in front of the classroom. As a tribute to the geniuses of our time here are the top 10 greatest geeks of the 21st century.
1. The Microsoft Corporation 1978
Hands down, not a looker perhaps, but the main reason why all of us have computers today. The richest man on earth – beat you wouldn’t think that if you saw him climbing ropes in gym class.
2. The Wordpress team
They created a blogging software that has been downloaded by the millions and is today the number 1 used content management system.
3. Perez Hilton
With millions of daily visitors worldwide Perez Hilton has not only created the most read blog in the world but also a natural place as the “geek” in famous, good-looking celebrity crowds.
4. Rowan Atkinson
Playing the obviously nerdy role as Mr. Bean, Atkinson has a natural place in this top 10 list. Not only because he has become an international celebrity thanks to his geeky portrayal, but also because he is said to be somewhat of a geek in real life as well.
5. Jeffrey “Skunk” Baxter
Perhaps more his looks than achievements makes him a great geek of our time. As a guitarist of the rock band Steely Dan, Jeff later went over to work as a defense consultant on the Congressional Advisory Board on missile defense. The geek within finally came out!
6. Einstein
The science genius, “inventing” the theory of relativity, who probably didn’t exactly hit on girls in the hallways or joined the football team.
7. Beatles
Considered wildly cool and bound breaking back in the days, Beatles members, except John Lennon perhaps, were quite geeky with their bangs, polo shirts and innocence. Later they became more influenced by the real life, but in the beginning it is hard to understand why these four moma’s boys were considered such sex symbols.
8. Comic Book Guy
The comic book guy in Simpsons represents the absolute geek of our time.
9. Mr Spock
The universal salute of all geeks, the Vulcan hand salute. Mr Spock in Star Trek is the creator of this unifying salute and thus must be counted in.
10. Quentin Tarantino
The movie director who speaks very fast and rarely looks anybody in the eyes. A true geek and a perfect finish to this top 10 list. Completely devoted to one niche, Mr Tarantino becomes a successful and adored movie maker, while maintaining crippled on other aspects such as social skills.
