The movie industry has seen some headstrong actresses in some headstrong roles. This is a tribute to both, as we list the most hardcore movie actresses and their most convincing performances. And for the record, we would include Xena actress Lucy Lawless on this list if not the show was a TV series.
10. Sandahl Bergman – Conan the Barbarian
She conquered Conan without lifting so much as a finger. Good thing for him too because she killed everyone else. I always wondered what happened to her. She seemed destined to rock the screen. At least we got to see her killing and maiming like a pro for one movie anyway.
9.Lucy Liu – Ballistic
Lucy Liu has been in some great action movies like Charlie’s Angels and Kill Bill, but in Ballistic she was outstanding as the tough assassin. I suppose if you really wanted to cross her you could, but you better be ready for a huge rumble in doing so. Liu came through on this one.
8. Julia Roberts – Erin Brockovich
I know she didn’t have guns or sport any martial arts moves, but let’s face it, she brought lawyers and that more dangerous than a Stinger missile! She falls a little low on the list due to lack of explosions and no body count in the movie, however I think it was just because she didn’t have any guns.
7. Geena Davis – The Long Kiss Goodnight
She’s a former killing machine turned soccer mom. The main problem is she doesn’t know she used to be a high level government assassin. And now the people she used to work for want her dead. This movie actually predates the Bourne Ultimatum, but I wonder who would win a one-on-one fight: Jason Bourne or Geena Davis.
6. Angelina Jolie – Tomb Raider
She’s cocky, but who wouldn’t be if you could jump from place to place and kill whatever you wanted, run any kind of machine in the world and have more money than Kellogg’s has cornflakes? (Breath WM). The woman took an OK game and turned it into a great movie. No one else had the physical -ahem- range to do with that role that Jolie did. Three thumbs up!
5. Kate Beckinsale – Underworld
When she steps off the top of a 100 story building, lands on two feet and then just walks away, you get the feeling that this is not just some chick. As a werewolf hunter and former human farm girl turned vampire, you get a sense that she’s here to do two things: kill things and … maybe she was only around to do one thing then. She does it well.
4. Linda Hamilton – Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Linda Hamilton was a little tough at the end of Terminator, and a complete wuss in the TV series beauty and the Beast, but she came back and buffed up for T2. The woman could pump action a grenade launched with one hand! And did she really even need that one hand at all? Probably not. I get the feeling she could have eventually killed a T3000 with a popsicle stick. Don’t screw with Linda Hamilton man.
3. Milla Jovovich – Resident Evil
I remember seeing her in The Fifth Element with Bruce Willis and thinking “This girl could do some action films on her own.” Someone else thought so as well, and there you have it: One tough chick continually kicking zombie butt. Not very many game to movie franchises have done well (calm down JR. I said not MANY) but Jovovich carried the Resident Evil franchise on her back.
2. Uma Thurman – Kill Bill
This movie made me change my name back to William. But still, if I was going to be tracked down by a super-martial arts killing machine, Uma Thurman is not a bad choice. She walks, she talks, she cuts, chops and dices!
1. Sigourney Weaver – Aliens
Why would anyone send in a group of space marines to exterminate some killer aliens when they just have to drop Sigourney Weaver off and then swing back by to pick her up in like an hour and a half? For ratings, plot, and just out and out sheer butt kicking Sigourney Weaver rocks!
