10 Extremely Lame Comic Book Movies

Sponsored list by You

Superhero movies have become a huge entertainment staple. As a former comic book geek turn professional wise-acre I not only revel in my superior knowledge of comic books and comic book lore, but sneer down at the mere mortals who look at it as mindless entertainment. These movies were definitely not made by fans and should come with a warning label.

10. Batman & Robin

“Holy bad script Batman!” That’s how this movie wound up. I just couldn’t believe how horrible this was over all. The script, the two dimensional characters and the not so great special effects all culminated into an over-the-top mess.

The 3′ wide pock mark on Alicia Silverstone’s forehead on the big screen didn’t help much.

9. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace

Okay, here’s some irony; a bad superhero movie with the letters “I.V.” in the title. I couldn’t ask for a better target. If there was a movie that actually needed a transfusion it was with one. The only good thing about it was Christopher Reeves, who was always a pleasure to watch.

8. Fantastic 4 – 1994

Yes, this really happened. Sometimes you have to wonder what someone was thinking when they make these movies. At what point does a bad idea actually look bad?

7. Supergirl

Yeah, another groaner. The movie companies tried to capitalize on the popularity of the last generation of Superman movies. They forgot a couple of things; such as story line that made sense and special effects. When Hollywood rests on its laurels we all lose.

6. Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D

Okay, not a big fan of “the Hoff” but I would have thought he could have pulled off a Nick Fury movie. He even looks a little like Fury. Nope. Without a talking car, the man struggles.

5. Captain America 1991

Okay, I am nearly as big of a fan of Cap as I am of Iron Man… they’re both in my personal Top 10. The the only thing about this movie that didn’t suck was that I didn’t have to read anything. In fact, I didn’t even stay for the credits.

4. Justice League of America

Here’s some more irony for you, this was a made for TV pilot/movie that never aired in the States. Now, it did air in Europe and the UK. It’s no wonder we have trade issues at times with the E.U.

They think our superheroes or WUSSIES! Still if you can find a way to watch this please do… I’m still laughing about it months after I ran across it researching something else.

3. Doc Savage

It takes a real bad comic book to make a really bad movie; Doc Savage is proof of that. I loved Ron Elli as an actor when I was growing up as a kid.

The John Philip Sousa soundtrack was probably the highlight of this movie, but it did little to save a failing script and some sub-par acting. Still for a Sunday afternoon kind of movie, not too bad.

2. Steel

This movie was about as formulaic as they come. Seriously. Super genius side kick for back-up, secret lair and “cool wheels” are all present. Still this is kind of a ghetto rat (I’m SURE I’ll hear about this one) kind of Batman. Even those who are offended will straight-up say this movie was bad.

Why is it this high on the list? Probably because for the money spent, it was horrible.

1. Spiderman in the 1970′s

Did Toby Maguire make the Spider-Man franchise what it is in movies today? ABSOLUTELY! When I heard about another Spider-Man movie coming out in 2002 I thought I might as well just mail in my $8.95 and skip the movie.

I went anyway because I am a hopeless optimist and was thrilled. The first thing I did was call my dad to tell him they finally got it right… the second was buy another ticket. It was the Spider-Man of the 1970′s that nearly ruined it for me forever. Thank you TOBY!
