Sports – it thrills us and at times breaks our hearts. It’s not just the athletes on the playing field that can be disappointed either; coaches and fans can lose their faith in the all mighty as well. Coaches can hold as many after game press conference and point to as many facts as they want, but that won’t take the team to the finals. You can live a model life, go to work every day and love your wife and kids, but that won’t make your favorite team win the championship. And unfortunately, even if you team does go and win, there is more than one way to be disappointed.
Michael Vick (American Football)

Arrested on animal cruelty charges so severe a jail sentence was mandated; this NFL quarterback threw away an entire fan base over something that in all honesty 99% of the world’s population finds repulsive; dog fighting. If Vick’s career will ever recover from this only time will tell– not many really even care anymore.
2006 Brazilian Soccer Team (World Cup Soccer)

A defending champion is supposed to exhibit a massive amount of pride and determination. Hardly anything disappoints and frustrates fans more than when that pride and determination is not demonstrated on the playing field. Fans take great pride in their teams. Especially when they reach the pinnacle of a sport — it’s unfair for them to have to worry about whether or not their team will return the next go around; it’s unconscionable when their team humiliates the fans with a performance that is well below their capabilities.
The NY Rangers (Hockey)

As much money has been poured into this franchise, during the last decade, their performance has been very substandard. In fact, the NY Rangers almost seems to be a talent black hole as players seem to have great careers that bracket their time with the Rangers.
Bode Miller (2006 Winter Olympics)

Drinking and driving is wrong. Putting aside your responsibilities as a public figure and role model to kids to party all night and bragging about it in the international press is wrong. If someone had told Bode Miller all of this, it would have saved a lot of people a lot of frustrations. Miller might have even had time to win a medal or two.
The Dallas Cowboys (American Football)

You either love them or hate them, but you expect more out of them that what they’ve produced in the last 10 seasons. Every year NFL fans expect the Cowboys to be a tough team to beat, and every year, they’re not quite as tough as they should have been. There’s never one reason for it either, which leads to even more frustration.
Tim Benjamin (Track & Field)

Tim Benjamin had the legs and the mental toughness to be one of the world’s best track and field stars. What he didn’t have was the constitution to really get out front and stay there. Injury and health issues finally were too much for him and retired.
Kevin Harvick and Richard Childress Racing (Nascar)
Keven Harvick has almost always been poised to be one of NASCAR’s biggest names. Unfortunately he’s only made a name for himself in mediocrity. No one can put a finger on why Harvick’s consistency has been lacking, but the symptoms are very clear.
David Beckham with Real Madrid (European Football)

Real Madrid did not perform well enough to win either the Spanish League or the Champions League with Beckham on the team. For fans it was nice to see a living legend on the field. But he didn’t perform like Jesus on the Sabbath as was hoped. More like my Uncle Phil on Wednesday.
Tom Brady (American Football)

The 2008 Season had to be played by the New England Patriots without him. Suffering an season ending injury early in the NFL season not only disappointed Pats fans, but also anyone who hoped their team would beat Brady—badly.
Michael Jordan’s Final Game

April 16, 2003 – Michael Jordan wrapped up his historic career in Philadelphia. Unfortunately he wrapped it up on a down note as his Washington Wizards lost by 20 points against the 69ers. The score is not what’s disappointed to Jordan fans; you just would like to see your idol go out a winner. He however got a well deserved standing ovation by the crowd.
