Major parts of their lives, professional and private, being recorded, celebrities run a high risk of also having their breakdowns broadcasted. Thanks to the Internet, we are now happy to present the top ten most memorable celebrity meltdowns of the 2000s.
#10. Tom Cruise Meltdown on Oprah (2005)
Appearing on Oprah is a big deal. Winfrey turns away guests that most shows have to corral in like ponies. Cruise not only gets invited to the Oprah Show, but goes nuts while there. He was seen bowing to Oprah several times over and jumping on the couch while the women in the audience squealed in delight.
#9. The Video of Drunk and Hungry David Hasselhoff (2007)
Mein Got David! The need for a talking car that drives its self was never really more imperative than in the case of the former Knight Rider star. After several hospitalizations for alcohol poisoning and rehab attempts and drunken eating binges, fans of “the Hoff” were stunned. Most incidents involving Hasselhoff had been carefully spun and downplayed but a video released on YouTube filmed by his daughter, changed all that. The best selling German recording artist has, by all appearances jumped on the wagon and we wish him all the best in his recovery.
It was one of those surreal moments that everyone wishes they had back. Why was Tom so “amped”? He was in love with Katie Holmes, a genuine “fool for love.” I have been in love and felt that surge of energy that comes with feeling as if your heart would burst out of your chest. Would I jump on a couch and physically attack Oprah in the name of love? Maybe, it’s a tough question.
#8. Young Buck- Vibe Awards Fight (2004)
After being refused an autograph by Dr. Dre, Jimmie Johnson sucker punches Dre in the back of the head and tries to get away. A fight ensues in which Young Buck stabs Johnson in the chest. This all led to several court hearings in which Young Buck was then official considered “hard”. Several officers were involved in the incident, and strangely enough, none were charged with excessive violence.
#7. Kanye West Meltdown at the MTV EMA’s (2007)
What is with this guy and stage crashing? This is what started a lot of the behavior that led to the Kayne/ Swift controversy in 2009. At the after party Kayne was made to feel like he had somehow done a good thing. It’s hilarious when you put it into context; it’s not so much that Kayne did a good thing as that even in 2007 no one had very high expectations of him or for his behavior.
#6. Mariah Carey TRL Meltdown (2001)
With no regard to her personal safety or the program format, Mariah Carey bursts onto the stage of TRL wearing only a Loverboy T-shirt. Carey then waved to some people and droped off some ice cream. Usually people go on TV for a reason, and just being Mariah wasn’t considered reason enough and was kind of freaky. This meltdown made people at home squirm because we were all waiting for her to actually DO something, even Carson Daily. Had she gone into a soulful rendition of “Turn Me Loose”, people would have accepted that, but to drop off ice cream and go on about her own mental health?
#5. Winona Ryder’s Shoplifting Incident (2001)
After gathering up nearly $6,000 of clothing, actress Winona Ryder attempts to simply stroll out of the store she. This confused a lot of people because she could obviously afford the things she attempted to steal. And the heist being as thrilling as a walk through the mall, excitement wasn’t a factor. Suggested tips for Winona’s next attempt: Take what you want in several trips instead of one. Don’t be a movie star; people tend to give you a little more attention. “Grab and Go” only works if you can run. Saying “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!” will not get you out of it.
#4. Tyra Banks Meltdown on America’s Next Top Model
Tyra Banks; Tough love advocate for the noughties. It was obvious that Tyra lost her objectivity with this young lady who did not seem to appreciate the opportunity given. It’s really too bad that Tyra couldn’t have been on hand to straighten Kanye out.
#3. Michael “Kramer” Richards Gone Wild during Comedy Act (2006)
While doing a comedy show in 2006 Richards felt he was being heckled by a group of African Americans. The scene degenerated into a name calling contest in which each contestant was only allowed to use one name a piece. You’ll notice in the video that people begin streaming out and it’s obvious that Richards is trying to salvage his act and find anything funny in racism, but fails miserably. This was the final nail in the coffin of Richards’ career. His tickets to the BET Awards were not honored that year.
#2. Christian Bale Rant (2009)
During the shooting a scene for his new movie “Terminator Salvation”, Bail decides to blast a lighting guy who accidentally walked into the scene in the background. The ensuing tirade leaves one breathless and like a train wreck (in audio), we can’t stop listening. You feel sorry for the guy (Shane Hurlbut) because Bail, like the preppy pit bull he often portrays, will just not let go. Bail threatened to walk off the set, to physically harm Hurlbut and everything short of reprogramming Hurlbut’s DRV if he didn’t stand still. Luckily Hurlbut was not Bale’s mother; otherwise he might have actually been physically assaulted. Of course an apology was issued later, they always are.
#1. Kanye West Second Stage Crashing (2009)
Poor Taylor Swift. While accepting the Best Female Video award at the 2009 Video Music Awards Taylor’s speech was crashed by Kanye West who exclaimed, “Beyonce had the best video of all time!”. Obviously Taylor was mortified and if she hadn’t have been so shocked, probably could have taken Kanye out in a one on one fight. Later that night Swift was able to retake the stage and give a proper acceptance speech. Now we know why rappers carry firearms; to keep Kanye West from interrupting them! There now exist several memes of this moment all over the web, check out our listing of Kanye West memes.

Where is Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman?
That interview took awkwardness to a new level.
