Top 10: Conspiracy Theories of the Decade (00s)

Sponsored list by You

Conspiracy Theorists all over the world entertain and scare the heck out of us all. From JFK to Elvis, the theories keep going and going building in validity like some enormous and silly snowball. The problem is a lot of them can be twisted into something else or to support some other likely story. Whether you believe them or not, conspiracy theories are out there and we all hear them.

#10. Chemtail Theory

Contrails are a daily part of our lives; we usually never give them a second thought. That’s for normal people, conspiracy theorists have another idea. Though this theory started back in 1996, it’s been building a following though out the noughties. The claim goes that a chemtrail (chemical trail) is being left high overhead to drift down on the people below.

What these chemicals are is up for debate. The generally idea is that it’s about human experimentation. It certainly isn’t about mind control though, because if it were, no one would be thinking these crazy thoughts.

All of this was brought forth through complaints from the general public about contrails. Something I’m not quite sure I understand. How does one complain about contrails? Are they loud? Do they smell bad? What exactly is it about the puffy, white lines that seem so menacing?

#9. Flu Conspiracy

According to proponents of the conspiracy theory behind H5N1, the virus either never really existed or, more likely, is by far less deadly than the media make it appear. The pharmaceutical corporations are accused of deliberately hyping up the threat posed by the flu viruses via mass media and WHO statements, all to boost their profits from selling anti-flu medicines such as Tamiflu.

#8. The New World Order

Globalization and the European Union have all been huge strides towards world peace… or have they? New World Order theorists suspect something much more sinister, the threat of coming under the direct rule of the Illuminati, and ancient group dedicated to ruling the world. Once power is solidified under one banner, then there will be but one government to supplant.

#7. Megan Fox is a Man!

Not really a conspiracy theory so much as internet rumors. Megan Fox and Lady Gaga among others have been accused in the last year of being surgically altered men. This has led to serious soul searching by men everywhere.

#6. 2012

Sparked by “researchers” in Mayan history and fanned by Hollywood, the flames of conjecture are spreading about the end of the world… again. Unlike some of the other theories though, this one also involves governments of the world knowing in advance. This particular consiracy has now resulted in the block buster movie “2012”.

#5. Aliens on the Moon!

Whoever came up with the idea of there being an alien base on the moon was a genius. Seriously, think about it: There has got to be some good business in there somewhere, if nothing else, it increases web traffic dramatically. Somehow though, we’ve got to give it credence in that there was some sort of malfunction during the impact on the moon that left just enough doubt to keep us guessing.

#4. 2004 US Presidential Election

Conspiracy theorists maintain that the election was “rigged” for a candidate in support of a clan destined to do something somewhere to everyone. The two main reasons have to do with the Illuminati and the need for world government to kill off as many people as possible as we’ve grown too large as a species.

#3. RFID

Radio Frequency Identification. It is a way to be tracked from anywhere through use of a microchip… presumably implanted into people. Why anyone other than my wife would want to track me is beyond me. Rumors of masses of children being pulled from class to be inoculated with a flu shot or some such thing that is really a radio tag have abound.

#2. Governments Datamine MySpace and Facebook.

Apparently governments are now hacking into, or else fronting MySpace and Facebook in an attempt to catalogue and monitor people. Who they are cataloguing and monitoring and why they are doing so is still a heated debate. Personally, I think they just want to see what we’re all up to on Farmville.

#1. 911 Conspiracy Theory

911

Speculation is that the US government allowed the attacks to happen- if not did it themselves. There are lots of documents out there that definitively prove these theories. Unfortunately, as usual, none can be found.
