When you were a kid, you probably laughed at the effects in The Wolf Man, but nearly pissed yourself the first time you saw Nightmare on Elm Street. The fact is; there was a lot of blood on the screen back in those days. Some might even say there was more blood per killing than the human body actually holds. Needless to say, special effects have come a long way since 1984, and to prove it, We’ve made up a list of the 10 best horror movies of the noughties. Paranormal Activity (2009)
Micah and Katie move into a house in San Diego. They hear strange noises at night. The Ring (2002)
Watch a weird video, get a weird phone call and die by the hands of a wet, long haired rotten corpse seven days later. A journalist investigates the rumors and thus of course also evidence material; The Video. She now has seven days to figure out where this video came from and what horrific tragedy lies behind it.
House of Wax (2005)
On their way to a college football game, 6 people are stranded in an empty town with a wax museum, the 2 brothers who make the wax figures and the owner of the town’s House of Wax museum. When the students’ car breaks down, they have no choice but to stick around the strange town.
Mirrors (2008)
Demons lurk in the mirrors and control peoples’ suicide. A temporary security guard looks in on an old building and finds a massive mirror. He realizes that the demons can move as long as there is a mirror or some form of reflection in its path.
Kiefer Sutherland stars in Mirrors on an adventure to save his family from the demons.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
A group of teenagers passing through a town attempt to contact a local sheriff (R. Lee Ermey) about a hitchhiker’s suicide until they realize that a deformed chainsaw psychopath is hunting them down and wants to kill them. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Andrew Bryniarski) supports his poor family who can only eat who is killed.
The Grudge 1-3 (2004—2009)
A man killed his wife, son, and cat after finding out that she cheated on him. Karen, an American nurse working in Tokyo, is plagued by a supernatural curse “the grudge”. It will continue until someone achieves freedom from it while still alive. The curse follows everyone that comes in contact with it until they are dead.
Saw 1-6 (2004-2009)
The epic saga of Saw continues with the sixth sequel hitting cinemas in 2009. Like Jaws and the Police Academy, the audience seemingly cannot get enough of the Saw concept. People do not appreciate life and a selected few are painfully reminded of this fact by being forced to fight for their continued existence, always against very small odds. There is no mercy in any of the Saw movies, each reinventing the concept and thus keeping it from getting old. And there is definitely no respect for the feelings or tolerance level of the viewer.
Let The Right One In (2008)
When you thought vampire movies were a finished genre, a small swedish film called Let The Right One In is released (based on the book Låt Den Rätte Komma In by John Ajvide Lindqvist); A tale of young boy Oscar who become friends with new neighbor Eli who is a vampire. The depressing tone of dark swedish winter and cold and the story of Eli meets in a great mix that will leave anyone with chills and horror.
The Others (2001)
Some say Nicole Kidman did her greatest performance in this 2001 ghost-horror. Some are right. The story is creepy, with the mother-daughter relationship being especially chilling, and keeps any viewer guessing until the very end.
