10. Survivor

Do we really need to write a synopsis for this one? On the off chance you’ve not been on planet Earth in the last decade here it goes. A group of strangers are placed in a remote area and have to survive on what they can scrounge up on their own. As an added challenge, there are contests with another group of strangers who are going through the same thing. And people are voted off the island. This is considered great fun for the rest of us, because we have beer in the fridge and can laugh at the starving people trying to win a million dollars.

9. The Bachelor

This is another type of Survivor. Women line up and try to impress a guy who could be anyone really, but for the sake of the show is a successful princely entrepreneur with pearly white teeth and a cleft chin. The women of course are out to win one on one time with our bachelor and steal him away. The seasons come and go and someone’s always won, but interesting enough, no one’s ever actually gotten married. The premise spawned a lot of copycat programming though such as number 8…..

8. Flavor of Love

It’s insane, and I don’t particularly understand it, but this show threw out some serious numbers. 4.9 million tuned in. It’s mind boggling, but like a train wreck a lot of people couldn’t stop watching it. But still, I suppose with the amount of child support Flav has to pay, he had to do something.

7. The Apprentice

There are those who say that it’s a jungle in the work place. It’s tougher than that when you’re trying to get a job with Donald Trump. The man’s image of being a really nice guy and regular fella was irreparably damaged with the first “Your Fired” and never will come back. Yet somehow people like him better now.

6. America’s Next Top Model

Silly, self-indulgent and shallow; this is reality competition at its best! Model wannabes compete in a competition to be AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL. The only problem is none of the winners have really done anything afterwards. Still, this is inspirational to all of us because “like, they’re soooo pretty and like, you know, making the world better with their prettiness.”

5. Extreme Makeover

Extreme Makeover gave even ugly people a chance at shallowness, but somehow didn’t catch on as well as America’s Next Top Model. But it gets points for being daring and for the spinoff not mentioned in this list; Extreme Home Makeover, which is slowly becoming an American icon.

4. The Biggest Loser

People share with us the sad stories of how they got too fat, and we, the public buy it and send them tons of mail, and tune in every week to see how much weight they’ve lost. The irony is in 11 million people tuning in every week and seeing who has lost weight… while eating snack food. If we were really going to support them, we’d be doing reps with them down at the gym.

3. The Amazing Race

This is a $1 million grand prize for the team that arrives before all the rest in the final leg of long journey around the world. Since the teams of two consist of people who entered the competition together and already have a functional (or sometimes dysfunctional) relationship, there’s little chance for the cattiness and backstabbing but then again, if someone doesn’t turn left when they’re supposed to.

2. The Hills

Lauren Conrad graduated high school and took to the Hollywood Hills to gain more teenage girl ratings and because she couldn’t yet turn loose of her fans from the real OC. This is a prettier show than most of the reality TV out there, and no, not because of the girls. It this case, it’s more like in spite of the girls.

1. Jon & Kate Plus 8

The kids were cute, the stories seemed a little staged, but overall the reality series itself wasn’t that bad. It’s the reality behind the reality that makes this one so interesting. After the show ends, it’s the divorce and law suits and “those poor children” that’s kept us wondering “whatever happened…?”

Our own take on a reality show storyline

Two teams of four guys and four girls have to give each other makeovers in the Hollywood Hills while racing from Mulholland to Rodeo Drive. The first girl and first guy that arrive have to decide which of their teammates must marry an overweight person. The remaining six contestants will then have a knife fight, the winner of which will appear on America’s Next Top Convict, which will explore the country’s penal system on a day to day basis. Your host? Hulk Hogan of course!

Willie Tanner – ALF

The NBC classic sitcom ALF aired between 1986 and 1990, and as you probably know plots around a furry little alien called Alf who crash lands his spaceship in the Tanner’s resident. Though Alf naturally got all the attention, I must give my salute to father Willie Tanner, played by actor Max Wright. Mr. Tanner belongs to the exception of sitcom dads, who’s characters are actually respectable. He may not be the funniest but every time he had a mano a mano talk with Alf, wearing those huge glasses and sharing his words of wisdom, I couldn’t help but get all warm inside. I can however agree that he sometimes could come off kind of harsh towards Alf. But then again, Alf could be a real bachelor pain in the ass.

Frank Barone – Everybody Loves Raymond

As the sitcom is based on Ray’s real life let’s not hope Frank Barrone is a replica of Raymonds real dad, because let’s face it; Frank is a horrible man. And though Mr. Barone had a few fine moments during the series long life-line, his character showed little hope for improvement. Mean, condescending and simply hilarious.

Frank Costanza – Seinfeld

With a fierce temper George’s father is a favorite character on the Seinfeld show. Frank Costanza is the father, uncle, heck even a relative nobody wants to have. He is however one of the most hilarious parental characters the American sitcom industry has ever produced.

Red Forman – That 70’s Show

Always threatening to put his foot up someone ass, Red Forman won a special place in the hearts of every fan of That 70s Show. Uncommunicative, grumpy and more conservative than family Sunday dinners, Red is a genius creation who became as much a part of the show as any of the other cast members.

Arthur Spooner – King of Queens

Again Sr. Stiller on a brilliant perfomance as the yelling, border-line psychotic father who lives in the basement.

Dr. Dick Solomon – 3rd Rock from The Sun

Although only assigned father figure of the Salomon household, Dr. Dick Solomon is a great addition to the sitcom dad hall of fame with his narcissistic way.

Bill Cosby – The Cosby Show

Nobody can hate Bill Cosby. Sure, Eddie Murphy can make fun of him, but in truth Cosby hasn’t a bad bone in his body.

Al Bundy – Married with Children

Now, Al Bundy can be hated and should be hated, but is all the same loved by a whole generation of TV-viewers. He sort of grow on you, with his initial bitterness in the end transforming into brilliant wit.

Martin Crane – Frasier

In the sitcom Frasier, the two brothers Crane adds enough intellectual and male sensitivity, with father Martin Crane balancing it out with some good ‘Ol American father role modeling.

1. American Chopper – Paul Junior Vs. Paul Senior

American Chopper company founder Paul Teutul, Sr., and his son, Paul Jr. makes this reality show about so much more than building cool Harley’s. Constantly fighting with each other over seemingly lame things, a day in the OCC (OrangeCountyChoppers) shop never gets dull. Here is an example, seven full minutes of film with nothing but cursing, yelling, smashing of things and then some more cursing. Who would have thought that bikers would make such excellent tv?

2. A Shot At Tila Tequila – Lame Poolside Fight

You know there is going to be a fight when 15 some guys, high on testosterone tries to win the heart of a certain miss Tila Tequila. And so does the producers of the show. So instead of inviting smart, educated and sane gentlemen, they crash the nearest spring party and jank out the biggest and dumbest dudes there. Here is a clip when a poolside party at the Tila Manshion turns ugly. The funny thing is that the fight that erupts seems more like intense hugging than anything else.

3.Momma’s Boy – Racist Mrs. B Speaks Her Mind

First of all, what is better tv than a bunch of smothered momma’s boys for steaming bachelors that actually let their mothers tag along in the quest for love? Priceless, as the mother of JoJo, named Reality TV’s new villain, turns out to be racist and all kinds of crazy. When she meets the girls for the first time, they have already seen a video where Mrs. B shares her opinion on race, religion and much more. The night end up in a feud where Mrs. B gives the girls a piece of her mind.

4. Tyra Banks Blows A Fuse in America’s Next Top Model

They’re skinny, in it for the fame and ready to trash talk anything and anyone who come in their way. They’re America’s Next Top Models. Lean back and watch as all hell breaks loose when host, ex-top model and executive producer Tyra Banks goes ballistic on a particularly complacent girl. Again it becomes very clear that America’s Next Top Model really is all about Tyra.

5. Omarosa on The Apprentice Season 1

If there is one reality show contestant that has stuck in peoples minds, it’s the ever so charming business woman Omarosa on The Apprentice season 1. On her high hoarse, Omarosa sailed through The Apprentice in her own little bubble, causing all kinds of fights with whoever dared.

6. Girlicious

In the aftermath of the successful Pussycat Dolls, producers had the brilliant idea of creating another hot girl band, on national tv. The show and band was given the fitting name Girlicious and it attracted hundreds of thousands of application from teenage girls all over the country looking for stardom. As it turned out, neither the show or band turned out to be even close to the epic fame of the Pussycat Dolls. However, with a whole bunch of bitchy girls all under one room, the show delivered many entertaining internal fights. Here is one where Tiffanie starts a turmoil once again.

7. The Hills – Forgive and Forget

One of the chilliest moments in American tv history. After an attempt to apologize Lauren gets the hard truth from Lauren, as she exclaims that she want to forgive Heidi, and forget her. Now that’s cold.

8. Deadliest Catch – TimeBandit Crew Fights

Crew members on the TimeBandit, one of the ships that fishes king crabs in the Bering Sea, get into a fight. Under those harsh conditions a loss in temper is however understandable, so although I love this show, this fight lands at number eight in this listing.

9. Fights on American Idol – Simon Cowell vs. Paula Abdul

There are few people in the U.S who do not know who Simon Cowell is by now. And ever fewer who does not consider him a british asshole. Here is one of many arguments between American Idol jury member Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell.
