The ten funniest fail blogs, carefully selected from our bookmarks.

If you have read anything I written in TT10 you will know I certainly do not tolerate a fool. However what about the sites completely dedicated to making fun of other’s stupidity? Those are sites we can get behind with gusto! So here are the Top Ten Fail blogs.

10. ParentFail.com

Child Protected Services should have a direct link to this site…. Seriously. I’m torn between being slightly disgusted and understanding some of these fails. (See the baby in a cage.) Still this site definitely lives up to its name.

9. MyFirstFail.com

Cute baby pictures that someone will have to hide when they bring their first girlfriend or boyfriend home. Yup, these are definitely funny, in a “ha ha” kind of way. But you have to give some love to the babies.

8. Cakewrecks.blogspot.com

This isn’t a bunch of cakes falling over either. Nope, this reminds me that I have a birthday coming up AND makes me smile a little when I read the tops of the cakes. Not just for bakers, this site is good for a few chuckles. The snappy repartee in these fails makes this site one of the few worth actually reading.

7. AwkwardFamilyPhotos.com

Proving yet again that content DOES matter with fail blogs, the tongue-in-cheek captions actually enhance the goofy pictures instead of trying to outdo them. Well written and hilarious content. (Stay away from my baby pictures you guys).

6. LovelyListing.com

It’s all about the real estate… that you do not want to buy. This is a crazy site. Taken from real listing and posted on the internet for your pleasure. I swear though, I can see my aunt’s house in a couple of photos.

5. CraftFail.com

A little gross a little cute. Really, if your taste in humor does run towards the kinda sick, go for it. Mine does, so I liked it.

4. DailyFailBlog.com

These fails are not only clever to read, but there are enough pictures to keep the AD/HD inner child in all of us busy as well. Good job!

3. Engrish.com

On a trip to Japan a few years ago I couldn’t help but laugh at all the “English” t-shirts I saw with some of the dumbest phrases on them. Now you don’t have to leave your computer to check out the latest stupid phrase being worn by Asian youth.

2. EpicFail.com

Another fail blog that lives up to its name. The beauty is in the presentation on this one; it’s a hodge-podge of video, text and pictures thrown together in a cacophony of other people’s pain. I love it!

1. FailBlog.org

This site is anything but tame. As far as fails go, they take no prisoners. I like the fact that the pictures are easy enough to get and the captions are just captions and not an entire novella.

Is fall out of any natural disaster always going to be dissapointment?

Natural disasters hit with little warning, but what for future reference has to be established is not how to avoid an earthquake, hurricane or volcano eruption, but how proper and functional aid relief is set up. Even an hour delay in proper aid response of domestic and international leaders is unacceptable.

Based on history and some inference taken from prior relief attempts by the national and international community, it’s not hard to see that the fall out of any natural disaster is always going to be frustration.

10. Hurricane Andrew – 1992

FEMA was still more or less in its infancy at this point. Created by President Jimmy Carter in 1979, FEMA was untested until Andrew hit the coast of Florida. FEMA had 15 years to prepare but apparently needed another week.

It took them nearly that long to mobilize and deploy troops to help the thousands and thousands of stranded survivors. This was the first test and first fail of the woe begotten program. Why was Katrina such a surprise? Because Andrew taught them nothing.

9. Tangshan Earthquake – 1976

At approximately an 8 on the Richter scale, this monster of a quake killed 240,000 people. Though not the largest Chinese natural disaster of all time, it is bad enough. China refused International aid and like typical Chinese government help in that decade, it was a “fend for yourself” situation.

8. Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami 0 2004

Over 225,000 people were killed in the tsunami that followed the Indian Ocean quake in 2004 that hit in nine countries on a total of three continents. And although thousands of traveling tourists were affected, Western nations were slow to respond. Again, as with Haiti, the supplies were showing up, but the distribution was slow.

7. Burma Cyclone – 2008

When the poor nation of Burma was hit by a killer cyclone in 2008 the people affected were left to languish and suffer until their government made an international appeal for help, little too late. Over 2,400 people died needlessly as a result of pour shelter before the storm and lack of any real aid for sometime after.

Mark Farmaner, of the Burma Campaign UK, commented on the government’s failed aid relief: “The regime failed to warn people and are failing to help them now”, “One of the few things that may motivate them to allow aid in is the fear of another uprising. People are asking why they can mobilise the police and army to attack democracy protests but do nothing now.”

6. Live Aid – 1985

Live Aid in 1985 raised something like $238 million dollars to relieve Africa’s woes due to drought and famine. You could build a rose garden across the state of Nevada with that kind of money, but not a few farms in Ethiopia.

Nope. If 25% of any of that money made it to the people, it made it straight to their bellies and not their futures. Mismanagement of funds and giving into pressure from bandit military governments watered this effort down to nothing.

5. Pakistan – 2005

An earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale leveled mountainside villages and left Pakistan in dire straits in 2005. Relief to be people victimized by the natural disaster was slow in coming. With the infrastructure down and a lack of any co-ordination, thousands died in the aftermath.

4. Iran – 1990

Does anyone remember the “tremor” that killed 40,000 people in Iran? Probably not. The big disaster in all of this is simply that this region gets earthquake after earthquake and nothing is done by the international community to help prepare the populace. Buy a man a fish and feed him for a day, but don’t teach him how to build an earthquake proof home.

3. Indonesia – 1997

Fires rages through Indonesia in 1997, unchecked and left to burn up valuable rainforest, and where was Mr. Eco- Al Gore? When things looked smoky for neighboring countries was aid offered. The West did very little to help; the main reason being that rainforest wasn’t hip at the time.

2. Hurricane Katrina – 2005

In the biggest muff job of all time, FEMA dropped the ball again. This disaster exposed how the disaster relief organization had some pretty hefty holes in its policies. The reason it’s listed so high is simply that with all the resources at its disposal…. People who hate the US could have done a better job.

1. Haiti Earthquake – 2010

International relief makes the same errors over and over again. The people of Haiti should be in luxury tents, their 3,000 escaped criminals rounded up and their dead buried by now. But instead, while World leaders promise aid, the streets of Port-au-Prince remain in chaos, survivors still in desperate need of shelter, health care and basic supplies like food and water.

Relief efforts are however <a href="Natural disasters hit with little warning, but what for future reference has to be established is not how to avoid an earthquake, hurricane or volcano eruption, but how proper and functional aid relief is set up.
In case you’ve missed the emergence of this wondrous of sub-cultures, here are the top ten best selling video sames of this decade.

Those of us who grew up in the 80s look back fondly at the likes of Atari and Sega, but before they dominated our lives, there was Pong. By the late 80s and early 90s, the Personal Computer and PC gaming dominated the market. Then as online gaming took off, the men at the helm of the ever expanding console market began to experiment with online functionality and it wasn’t too long before the industry exploded.

The demographic for video games is forever evolving and now includes small children and women. Yes guys, you have to wait for your girl to finish before you can go shoot aliens. Just in case you’ve been camped out under a rock and missed the emergence of this wondrous of sub-cultures, we bring you the Top Ten- Best Selling Video Games of this Decade.

#10. Resident Evil 4 (2005)

One of the most anticipated titles of 2005, Resident Evil 4 crossed over from PC to console and back again. The story line was intense, the puzzles captivating and the zombies still a little frightening. Sales for this PC/Console game were great, but they really didn’t extend beyond 2005.

#9. Sims (2000)

Another cross platform game that experienced a sensational boom was SIMS. A virtual reality conceptual game that had you coming home from work so you could send your avatar (virtual self) to work. The supplemental release of SIMS Online and the fact that it was one of the first successful online/console/pc cross-over earns it a place on this list.

#8. Diablo II (2000)

One of the very first online multiplayer RPG games to come in a box. The service was free and the game play was streamlined. This game was highly addictive and put Blizzard on the map as far as online gaming goes.

#7. Wii Play (2006)

With nearly 24 million copies sold to date, Wii play- indeed a lot of Wii titles cannot be denied. In response to children sitting in front of the TV for hours and not exercising Nintendo made our chunky children get up and do some. We adults weren’t too shy about joining in too.

#6. New Super Mario Brothers (2006)

Perhaps selling a few less in Nintendo numbers at 22 million sold, New Super Mario Brothers was a delight to play and a darling among the older generation gamers who pined for a bygone era of 2D mushroom chomping, brick smashing fun. Not many games can ever attain the level of satisfaction gained from stomping on the head of a gumba.

#5. Nintendogs (2006)

Nintendogs has sold 20 million to date for the DS handheld system. Handhelds have to be represented and this odd little game is about as representative as they come. You raise and train your own virtual dog in this game, and unlike console games you can walk them too! The good news is, while you’re walking your virtual pooch, you don’t have to clean up after them.

#4. Wii Fit (2006)

Continuing the 2006 Nintendo onslaught with 22 million sold is Wii Fit. Again, the kind folks at Nintendo want us all to get up and feel like idiots in our own living rooms. Apparently peer pressure works, because 22 million people at least bought the game.

#3. Wii Sports (2006)

50 million sold! Some video game franchises don’t see those kinds of numbers. In fact very few do. Perhaps through bundling and hiding the cost, Nintendo cheated a little bit, but being the king has its perks. No one can argue Nintendo’s Console supremacy.

#2. Mario Kart Wii (2007)

Mario kart is still selling at a respectable rate, 2 years after its release. Again, the plumber knows something about the human heart- or at least how to keep selling himself in new and interesting ways. Mario will most likely always round out any top 10 video game list.

#1. World Of Warcraft (2009)

This might stir some controversy as the boxed version and supplemental packs have only sold in the region of 20 million or so. However, consider this: there are 11 million subscribers playing at a cost of roughly $15 (or €10) per month. The mind boggles at those figures as the cash rolls in at Blizzard.

Let’s take a look at some of the most memorable news, both grievous and proud, from the last ten years of history.

As the world grows older, mankind continues to grow and change with it. We record our history not only as a traditional way to remember our success over the years, but also as a way to learn from our mistakes and to remind future generations that while recovering from tragedies and pushing forward may be hard, it isn’t impossible. However, the news doesn’t only report tragedies; great triumphs have been accomplished over time.

Over the last 10 years, there have been many news stories that have opened the flood gates of the media on a worldwide level. Some of these stories made us beam with pride, whereas others spread a layer of grief so thick that we wondered how the world could ever be the same. Yet through it all humanity, and the world as a whole, has continued to push on with seemingly unbreakable strength and compassion. As a tribute to mankind’s triumphs, and also a reminder of our failures, we present to you the Top 10 News Stories of the Noughties.

The September 11 Attacks (2001)

A highly coordinated terrorist attack on the United States shook the world and galvanized free people everywhere. The images and fall out of the biggest terrorist attack in history left people numb. To this day “where were you on 911” is a question that crops up often and will be long before it is forgotten.

Indian Ocean Earth Quake & Tsunami (2004)

The second highest magnitude earth quake ever spawned a series of tsunami that killed an estimated 230,000 people. This earthquake was so massive seismographs around the world registered its after affects. Other earthquakes where triggered as far away as Alaska.

The War and Occupation of Iraq (2003-?)

On March 20, 2003, Operation Iraqi Freedom was set in motion as US military forces pushed into Iraq in, as they claimed, search for nuclear weapons, and to depose leader Saddam Hussein. Despite the result of UN investigations led by Hans Blix, president Bush seemed fixed on bringing down any “evil doers” and “freedom haters” who in his eyes were to pay for the nine elevel attacks two years earlier. Finally Saddam was captured and hung in the name of Hypo(Demo)cracy. Military forces from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and 30 other countries invaded Iraq. Twenty-eight of these countries are still there in an ongoing effort to help stabilize the country’s new government.

Y2k (2000)

The months leading up to 2000 were fraught with internet news stories about the impeding apocalypse. Y2K was feared to cause the launch of nuclear missiles, crash the economy world-wide and break into your home and steal all your silverware and video games. Even after December 31, 1999, we were still hearing sighs of relief in the news media for months.

Hurricane Katrina (2005)

When Katrina hit the coast of New Orleans the damage was horrific and the aftermath was even worse. When levies burst and flooded the Gulf town, the world watched in sympathy. The way the aftermath was handled by FEMA and the US Government led the world to shake its head in horror. This event proved even a highly industrialized country is prone to nature’s fury and man’s mistakes.

Birds, Swine, Cows and SARS

The noughties saw more disease than France in the 1800s. One couldn’t go outside without being told to watch out for something named after an animal or with a name so complicated it just had letters. Bird flu, Swine Flu, Mad Cow Disease and SARS made a lot of people don surgical masks when going out in public. For some women it meant less time in front of the makeup mirror though.

Barack Obama Elected as President of the United States of America

It was only a matter of time before someone of at least partial African decent was elected President. Barak Obama ran on the ideal of change, something that he himself embodied just by being elected. The status quo unfortunately is still the status quo. Americans might have been ready for a black president, but the government is obviously not ready to change its color at all.

Michael Jackson Dies (2009)

On June 25, 2009 Michael Jackson was pronounced dead at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Jackson’s death was caused by prescription drug related cardiac arrest. The singer was 51 years old. Jackson was best known for his Album “Thriller” and being the inventor of the Moonwalk.

School shootings (2000-2009)

School shootings continued into the noughties causing more alarm and more emphasis on eliminating school bullying. This also put wood on the fire for gun control. Gun control in the US has always been a big issue and will continue to be so. As long as there is a debate no one has to get hurt.

US Health Care Debate (2009)

The US debate over healthcare and how to make it work best continues. This has been such a sticking point and there has been so much confusion over the issue even the international community is staring in wonder and awe of how something so simple can become something so convoluted.
